The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has announced its intention to strengthen entry requirements for behaviour support practitioners applying through the Early Assessment Pathway. This proposed reform is expected to improve the quality, consistency, and safety of NDIS behaviour support services across Australia.

Prag Consulting welcomes the changes, recognising the importance of ensuring that NDIS behaviour support practitioners are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality, person-centred specialist behaviour support. Strengthening the early assessment pathway aligns with broader sector goals to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices and improve outcomes for people with disability.

As an experienced NDIS provider, Prag Consulting brings over 60 years of combined disability sector experience across its leadership team. The organisation’s Clinical Director is a registered psychologist with nearly 35 years of experience disability and mental health services, providing strong clinical governance and oversight.

Prag Consulting maintains a structured approach to practitioner development, ensuring all behaviour support practitioners receive fortnightly supervision, access to mentoring, ongoing professional development, and six-weekly reflective practice. Supervision is delivered by a highly experienced team, including registered psychologists and a registered social worker with over 40 years of combined experience in disability services. Senior staff also access external supervision from a specialist in child and family psychology, further strengthening clinical practice and safeguarding standards.

Delivering effective specialist behaviour support under the NDIS requires more than meeting compliance requirements. It involves conducting comprehensive behaviour assessments, understanding the underlying function of behaviours of concern, and developing tailored behaviour support plans that are practical and sustainable. Importantly, it also requires ongoing collaboration with participants, families, and support teams to ensure strategies are implemented effectively.

Improving quality of life and reducing restrictive practices depends on practitioner capability, reflective practice, and consistent professional supervision. For new behaviour support practitioners, building competence in the NDIS environment requires investment in training, structured support, and hands-on experience.

With more than 10 years of experience delivering NDIS behaviour support services, Prag Consulting understands what is required to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes, and also what it takes to build competent practitioners. The organisation remains committed to building practitioner capability, strengthening clinical practice, and supporting positive outcomes for people with disability across Victoria and beyond.
